Her Best Qualities Gazelle, magpie, homing pigeon, coyote, sparrow, delicate darling, a boisterous playmate… quite contrasting descriptions for the one-of-a-kind sweetheart called Mari. She came as a RSPCA surrender, nervous and inhibited, terrified of the world and its various noises and sounds but with careful, firm coaxing, has blossomed into a happy, graceful, playful, and loving husky keeping her husky siblings and playdates on their toes. She’s generous with giving affection, and equally demanding when she wants some in return, melting her humans’ hearts. Having learnt to trust people outside her inner circle, Mari is now ready to find her forever home.
Walks with a Twist She ranges from terrified to carefree depending on the amount of stimuli. But she’s improving quickly, and once she’s formed the trust with her human, she walks steadily. Loud or sudden noises scare her but if she’s firmly led, she gets back on track. Her only quirk is that once she’s within 50m of home, she pulls relentlessly to get back into her comfort zone. She’s like a homing pigeon rushing to get back to where she’s safe and worry free.
Doggie Diplomat She’s formed amazing bonds with the dogs that have come over to her house for a play date/holiday. She’s full of energy, she’s playful and sometimes quite relentless in engaging the other dog in endless play. And if it’s a male dog, she puts on her seductress hat on, with her tail in the air and gentle pitter patter she grabs their attention and invites them to play, play more and then some more! She doesn’t guard food or toys but loves toys so much, sometimes she nurtures them as if they were her babies. No aggression or protectiveness though towards anything or anyone.
Chatterbox Versatile vocal chords, once comfortable with people she uses her voice to communicate. Can be a woof woof “play with me” or “let me trouble you for the fun of it” chatterbox. If she senses her 13 year old foster human brother focusing on something…TV or iPad or food, she chooses that time to playfully bark or gently nibble his elbow just to break his focus. She’s happy to sleep and rest through the day but every now and then, loves to sneak up to her human and give a huge WOOF just to break the monotony.
Weather Warrior: Haven’t observed with thunder but definitely prefers being indoors. Backyard is for a quick poop or pee dash or sometimes for a zoomies play session but come rain or gloomy weather, she’s happiest indoors
Kid-Friendly Potential Absolutely a gem, kid safe. She instinctively takes time to approach a new human of any size. Initially she used to be petrified to meet anyone new, immediately retreating to her crate, but over time, she’s gained confidence and comes up for a tentative sniff first and gets comfortable with time.
Energy Loves prancing around, lots of husky energy but just as happy to lie down peacefully at home.
Cat & Pocket Pets Not suited
Small Dogs? She treats small and big dogs the same on walks. Haven’t observed her in close quarters with small dogs.
Road Trip Ready She’s comfortable in the car and has accompanied her foster family on drive and overnight AirBnb stays. Her forever family will need to ease into outdoor trips with her, she’s still learning that the big wide world is a safe place.
House Training She’s house trained, but once in a while playfully does a little wee. She’s only done it when humans are around though, when left at home she prefers to hold.
Bath and grooming Happily stretches out and offers her belly for brushing. Her foster family has home groomed her as a trip to the groomer may be stressful for her. She seemed to enjoy her trip to the vet though, making friends with the nurses and was easy to handle.
Sweet Slumber: Loves her bed and her crate. Is happy to curl up and sleep in her crate. Equally happy to lie on her bed outside her crate.
Foodie’s Delight Not fussed, relishes whatever she’s given.
Extra info Mari is a precious doll. She’ll take time to form a bond with her humans but when she does, it’s such a beautiful thing. She has so much love to give, with her playful howls and tail wags, she’s an absolute delight. She had a rough start but has put that behind her and now enjoys every moment and spreads that joy by singing, hopping, and prancing – if you are picturing Bambi you are spot on. She needs her humans to be firm, reassuring, and patient with her, guiding her so she continues to grow in confidence. Rewarding courage and discouraging fear. With dogs, she’s right at home, her tiny stature is offset by her speed, flexibility and grit- a home with a canine playmate would be ideal for her.
