Meet Digga and Shadow, two beautiful senior Huskies who are searching for either a loving foster home or their forever family.

Digga and Shadow were adopted through us in 2022, but unforeseen circumstances their adopters had to surrender them back to us. They are currently in foster care and we now need to find a new foster or adoption home for them.

These bonded boys have spent years together and deserve to enjoy their golden years side by side. Homes For Huskies Rescue is happy to continue supporting Digga with his ongoing medical costs due to his age, so their new family can simply focus on giving them the love they deserve.

Digga is the quiet, independent gentleman of the pair. He enjoys a leisurely walk, loves stopping to sniff everything along the way and will happily sit at traffic lights when asked. Even though he is a senior, he still has great stamina and is more than happy to enjoy an hour long walk each day. At home he is incredibly relaxed, prefers his own space and is happiest stretched out on the couch or sleeping on the bed under the sheets. He is housetrained, although he does need to go outside a little more frequently these days. Digga is very respectful of the home, easy to groom and generally very low maintenance. His only naughty habit is that if he finds an opportunity to escape through an open gate, he’ll happily take himself on an adventure.

Shadow is the affectionate, outgoing member of the duo. He is always happiest when he is close to his people and tends to choose a favourite person to follow everywhere. He enjoys his walks and can be a little enthusiastic on the lead at first but settles nicely once underway. He also loves stopping to sniff along the way and has the amusing habit of scratching the grass after going to the toilet. Shadow enjoys long walks and can happily walk for an hour or more. At home he likes to know what everyone is doing and simply enjoys being part of the family. He does occasionally become anxious, which usually means he wanders around until he settles. Automatic fly spray units also seem to make him restless, and he doesn’t enjoy having his tail or back end touched. Grooming time often turns into a concert, as Shadow loves to sing.

Both boys have lovely manners. They know sit and shake, and both patiently wait for permission before eating their meals. Digga is generally calm around other dogs and especially enjoys the company of smaller dogs, although he has an unexplained dislike of German Shepherds. If Shadow becomes reactive on lead, Digga will often match his energy, although on his own Digga is much more relaxed. Shadow is very social with other dogs when off lead and enjoys playing, particularly with larger dogs. On lead he can be vocal around other dogs, and at the dog park he loves to socialise and play, although he can sometimes overwhelm smaller dogs and enjoys chasing them if they start running.

Neither boy has lived with cats. They have happily lived alongside a young bearded dragon and a children’s python and showed very little interest in either of them. They were calm and respectful around them when supervised. Both Digga and Shadow are also great with small dogs.

Both boys love travelling and are fantastic in the car. They happily ride in the back of a ute, love sticking their heads out either side and soaking up the wind in their faces while heading off on their next adventure.

Around children, Digga is wonderfully tolerant of all ages, including babies and toddlers. He isn’t particularly interested in children but is incredibly patient. Just be mindful of any unattended food because if given the chance, Digga will happily help himself. Shadow loves the attention children give him and is wonderful with kids. Like many dogs, he appreciates having his personal space respected and would thrive with a family who understands dog body language and teaches children to respect his boundaries.

Storms don’t bother Digga at all, while Shadow becomes a little stressed and prefers to stay close to his people for reassurance.

Both boys enjoy having a little chat. Digga likes to talk before walks but is otherwise fairly quiet. Shadow enjoys chatting in the mornings, before walks and whenever someone encourages him to join the conversation.

Digga is incredibly relaxed and enjoys doing his own thing, while Shadow is the perfect mix of playful and laid back. He has so much love to give and simply wants to share life with his people.

Digga would thrive with a relaxed family who are home regularly but don’t expect him to constantly seek attention. He enjoys his independence and is happy simply being nearby. Shadow would love a home where he has companionship throughout the day, whether that’s another dog, someone who works from home or a family who are around most of the time.

These beautiful boys balance each other perfectly. Digga is calm, wise, independent and incredibly handsome. Shadow is loyal, affectionate and always there to brighten your day. They aren’t your typical noisy Huskies. They are respectful of the home, enjoy their daily walks, love relaxing together and both have the gentlest, kindest hearts.

Digga receives monthly Cartrophen injections to help manage his mobility and keep him comfortable. Homes For Huskies Rescue will continue to support the cost of Digga’s Cartrophen injections, whether he is in foster care or adopted into his forever home. We want to ensure his ongoing treatment is never a barrier to him finding the loving home he deserves.

If you can offer Digga and Shadow either a foster home or their forever home, you’ll be rewarded with two incredibly loving companions who simply deserve the chance to spend their retirement years safe, comfortable and cherished together.
