We are looking for a new forever home for Lupin. He’s a beautiful big boy, with a typical Husky personality full of tender sweetness, a little anxiety and FOMO, plus a whole lot of cuddles and affection.
He is exceptionally strong thanks to his Malamute aspect of his mixed breeds. He spent one winter in New Zealand when he was about 18 months old enjoying dryland sledding, I raced him through forestry roads with a sledding social group that included professional, pure Husky teams.
Lupin took to it like he’d been sledding for years and proved to have excellent instincts for navigating ruts, puddles and listening to the new commands and expectations. He loved every moment we went sledding and pulled the sledding scooter with ease at great speed.
This did leave him with a tendency to pull on the leash when walking though and he is best walked using a halti-style head halter to help reduce the pulling and aid in keeping control of him if he does pull away at a distraction. He has limited recall.
Lupin (Lupi) has been raised with cats in the household so he is very good with our cats. I would think he could be introduced to new pet cats carefully and live happily as a part of a new mixed pack.
Lupi is great with children, having come into our family when our twins were four-year-old and our eldest was six. He is calm, totally tolerant of noise, kids running past him, jumping over him, or just hanging out with the kids as they play.
He is afraid of lightning and thunder and wants to be snuggled up next to you during storms. He is quiet, but desperate and determined to be close in these times when he’ll jump up on the bed or couch and dips his head close, or lays on you, to be touched and comforted.
As a husky mix, Lupin does like to dig occasionally in the garden, especially if the ground is wet. He has been raised with our other dog (Border Collie X) and they are very closely bonded, playing full of energy.
Lupin is a mix of tolerant and reactive with other dogs, which could be easily improved if he was walked and socialised more often. Lupin is strong-minded and very affectionate.
He will need stability, lots of love and exercise with people who truly understand and appreciate who and what a Husky is. He is New Zealand bred and brought to Australia when we moved here in 2023
