Husky Akita mix

Melbourne

Meet Patches, the giant-headed cuddliest bear husky you’ll ever come across.

He’s completely safe with humans of all sizes and everywhere his foster parents have taken him, he’s won strangers over and they all want to take him home. He’s unfussed about food, noises, thunder…just a happy go lucky cuddly fella all around.

The most astonishing thing has been how welcoming and sharing his otherwise snobby old husky foster sister has been with him, he completely won her over with his charm. He’s wary of her but she sees him as a cuddly younger bro and lets him claim her bed or toys.

Best Qualities: Infinite source of affection, obedience, desire to please, willingness to take gentle correction.

Obedience Star: He has two modes. Super obedience most of the time when calm. But can be the usual excited husky that ignores humans and pulls when in a high stimulus environment with lots of dogs or birds around.

Walks: Again two modes. When below his excitement threshold you will be tempted to drop the leash. But when excited he is a puller.

Doggie Diplomat: His initial meeting skills need polishing, but he makes for a great play mate or roommate. Respectful around toys and good.

Chatterbox: He has a quirky throaty soft howl he lets out when he feels he’s unjustly left home by the humans, and an I’m lonely or I’m bored whine when he’s confined on long car rides. During his time in the pound he was known to be a bit of a howler, but at his foster home he has stayed quite even when left alone for hours.

Weather Warrior: Not fussed at all

Kid-Friendly Potential: Absolutely a gem, kid safe. Tends to get excited and jumpy with bubbly noisy kids but calms down when asked to

Energy: Loves prancing around, happy to go on runs and walks, lots of husky energy but just as happy to lie down peacefully at home especially when it’s hot outside

Cat & Pocket Pets: Not observed, but overall he has a high prey drive so not suited with cats or pocket pets

Small Dogs? Wants to make friends and eagerly pulls towards the lil ones, but has made friends with the only small dog he met while in foster care, and was gentle with the small dog.

Road Trip Ready: Yes, good in the car.

House Training: Marked the strange new house a wee bit only on the first day, but zero accidents from day 2 onwards and communicates clearly when he wants access to the backyard.

Bath and grooming: Not very happy with the blower but patiently had his bath and groom.

Sweet Slumber: Curls up in the cutest way any where at all, not fussed. Sleeps through the night or if he’s alone at home

Foodie’s Delight: Prefers dry food or mixed with boiled chicken. Not overly fussed about meals, prefers adventure to a meal.
